Udo Reinemann honed his talents at the Vienna Music Academy and the Mozarteum in Salzburg under Erik Werba and W. Steinbrück.

In 1967 he was awarded first prize in Vienna and gave his first recital in Bordeaux, before going on to win the Sacha-Schneider Foundation (Paris) first prize and a medal at the Geneva International Music Competition. He perfected his vocal training in Paris under Germaine Lubin and Ré Koster, followed by Otakar Kraus in London.

His career began to take off in the fields of lied, oratorio and opera. In 1975, he joined forces with Ana-Maria Miranda, Clara Wirtz and Jean-Claude Orliac, forming a quartet named the Lieder Quartett with which he recorded the world's first album of vocal trios and quartets by Joseph Haydn. In 1978 he took part in Adrienne Clostre's Nietzsche opera, and was involved in My Chau Trong Thuy, an opera by Nguyen Thien Dao, the following year.

He performed a great number of first performances of melodies by Henri Sauguet, Xavier Darasse and Gérard Victory. He made the world's first ever recording of lieders by Hugo Wolf and Clara Schumann. In 1987, he founded the Utrecht Vocal Soloists ensemble. He began training singers in the art of Mozart performance at the Compagnie Nationale du Théâtre Lyrique et Musical (ARCAL) at 87 Rue des Pyrénées in Paris.

He founded the "Festival des Heures Romantiques à Monthodon" in 1997, now known as the "Festival des Heures Romantiques entre Loir & Loire", a summer event workshop that hosts young singers alongside seasoned musicians for a two- to three-week period.

He teaches at the Académie musicale de Villecroze in 2012.
