Rudolf Jansen was born in Arnhem (the Netherlands) in 1940. He studied piano, organ and harpsichord simultaneously at the Conservatory of Amsterdam where he now works as a lecturer. In 1964, he was awarded the “Prix d’Excellence” for organ, and, in 1966, the “Prix d’Excellence” for piano. Since then Jansen has specialized as Lied accompanist and chamber music player, working with many renowned artists including Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Elly Ameling, Irina Arkhipova, Olaf Bär, Christiane Oelze, Andreas Schmidt, Edith Wiens, Hans-Peter Blochwitz, Monica Groop, Robert Holl, Tom Krause, Agnes Giebel, Brigitte Fassbaender, Jean-Pierre Rampal and Peter Schreier. Numerous recordings document his artistic renown as piano accompanist. As partner of Kammersänger Robert Holl he, among others, recorded Lieder by Hugo Wolf and compositions by Robert Holl for label Preiser Records (Vienna). In the Netherlands he recorded two CDs with Lieder by Schubert and one CD with Lieder by Brahms for Vanguard Classics. Apart from many others he recorded with Kammersänger Andreas Schmidt the three major Lied cycles by Franz Schubert. His recordings of all Lieder by Edward Grieg in commemoration of the composer’s 150th birthday are of particular importance. A series of 8 CDs was released with all piano Lieder by Richard Strauss for which he accompanied Andreas Schmidt and Juliane Banse. Together with Christiane Oelze, Rudolf Jansen recorded a French/Spanish CD for Berlin Classics.

Rudolf Jansen is professor at the Musikhochschule Nurenberg/Augsburg, Germany. He also leads master-classes in Germany, Austria, Italy, France, Japan, Canada, Finland, Denmark, the Netherlands, and in the USA.

He teaches at the Académie musicale de Villecroze in 2002.
