Dimitri Vassilakis began his musical studies in Athens, where he was born in 1967. He continued his studies at the Paris Conservatory (CNSMDP), where he obtained the unanimous First Prize for piano (class of Gérard Frémy), for music room and support He also studies with Monique Deschaussées and György Sebök. Since 1992, he has been a soloist with the Ensemble intercontemporain.

He has also collaborated with composers such as Iannis Xenakis, Luciano Berio, Karlheinz Stockhausen and György Kurtàg. His disc Le Scorpion avec les Percussions de Strasbourg on music by Martin Matalon was awarded the Grand Prix du disc by the Académie Charles-Cros in the category "Best recording of contemporary music of the year 2004". He participated in the festivals of Salzburg, Edinburgh, Lucerne, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Automne from Warsaw, Chamber music from Ottawa, Proms from London and has performed in halls such as the Berlin Philharmonic (under the direction of Sir Simon Rattle), Carnegie Hall in New York, Royal Festival Hall in London , the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires.

His repertoire extends from Bach to today's young composers and includes, among others, the complete piano for Pierre Boulez and Iannis Xenakis. His discography includes, among others, the Goldberg Variations and extracts from Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier (under the Quantum label), studies by György Ligeti and Fabiàn Panisello (published by Neos) and the first complete piano works by Boulez ( Cybele). His recording of Incises (for which he was responsible for the world premiere) appears in the box set of Boulez's complete works published by DGG.
