After his studies at the CNR of Lyon and the Geneva Conservatory, Jean-Marie COTTET was awarded five First Prizes at the C.N.S.M. of Paris: piano, chamber music, harmony, counterpoint and piano accompaniment. In a training cycle with Jacques ROUVIER for piano, and Jean HUBEAU for chamber music, he won a series of prizes in international competitions:
"Jaen" (Spain, 1983), "Casadesus" (Cleveland, 1985), "Dino Ciani" (Milano, 1986), finalist "Clara Haskil" (Vevey, 1987). He completes his training at the "Banff center", Canada, (M. PRESSLER, G. SEBOK), as well as in London with Maria CURCIO.
Since then, his concerts have taken him to several continents: Europe, Asia, America and the Middle East. Jean-Marie COTTET plays solo, with orchestra as well as in chamber music which he plays in the most varied formations; his partners are Emma JOHNSON, Gérard POULET, Yvan CHIFFOLEAU, Jacques ROUVIER, Michel ARRIGNON; he also founds the Duo CHIN-COTTET with Judy CHIN (2 pianos). He regularly records for radio, television and on CD : (REM, Una Corda, MFA); "St Petersburg, the last romantics" was published in 2001 by QUANTUM. Composer (winner of the "Marcel Joste" prize at the age of eighteen) and collection director at the COMBRE publishing house, Jean-Marie COTTET is permanent soloist of the Ensemble COURT-CIRCUIT.
As such, he is very often the actor of world creations, playing under the direction of Pierre-André VALADE, Pierre BOULEZ...
In his recital programmes, he likes to create interactions (or shocks) through a subtle mix of contemporary and older pieces. Jean-Marie COTTET is a full professor at the Conservatoire Supérieur de Paris/CNR, and is invited every year to give masterclasses in France (Nice, Nancy, Courchevel) and abroad (Europe, Far East).
